chriskallal:

We need more street food in the Twin Cities.

Fact.

The thing is, in Minneapolis, the city’s regulations are so stringent that food carts like Carrie Summers and Lisa Carlson’s Chef Shack can only operate at farmers’ markets.

Dumb.

So, it was with great anticipation that I received a message from Lisa and Carrie sent half-way across the world from their winter vacation in India. They informed me there will be a pro-streetfood meeting at Minneapolis’ City Hall March 22, 2010 at 1:30pm. Saddle up, people. This is important.

Our friends at The Heavy Table did an amazing job researching the history of, and restrictions to streetfood in Minneapolis. Read up. They also made some great points about why streetfood is important to a city’s food culture. I couldn’t agree more.

We need to encourage food entrepreneurs. We need to incubate young chefs. We need to offer great food to late night partiers.

Simply put, streetfood is great for a city, great for our culture and good for foodies.

Come to the meeting. I’ll bring some ‘dawgs and we can hold forth in the great democratic tradition of being loud until the laws change.
